No, that’s not it, it’s not about my joy, the relief of my burden. I like to see people reunited, maybe that’s a silly things but what can I say, I like to see people run to each other, I like the kissing and crying, I like the impatience, the stories that the mouth can’t tell fast enough, the ears that aren’t big enough, the eyes that can’t take in all the change, I like hugging, the bringing together, the end of missing someone, I sit on the side with a coffee and write in my day book, I examine the flight schedules that I’ve already memorized, I observe, I write, I try not to remember the life that I didn’t want to lose but lost and have to remember, being here fills my heart with so much joy, even if the joy isn’t mine, and the end of the day, I fill the suitcase with old news.

Local Natives - World News

I was going to write an accompanied article to explain why this song, at this very moment, is so important to me. Forget that, in the last two days, I’ve spent an hour in the bath listening to this song on repeat. I won’t mention my wretched bouts of insomnia that have found me listening quietly to this song at 3:47 am while I make a mug of chocolate chai tea. Nor will I remind anyone that this song is exactly the right length of time to get me from my house all the way to work in the morning, nor will I say how mouthing the words at work makes my shift slightly more bearable.

I won’t tell you any of these things. However, I will encourage you to listen to it exactly 4 times in a row.

From the opening chords of “Horchata”, I was hooked on this album. I listened to it three times yesterday, and it only keeps getting better. I imagine this will make it on my Top Albums list at the end of the year.

I have known about the Toadies for years, but it hasn’t been until now that I developed an obsession with the album Rubberneck. Total post-grunge alterna-rock, but there is something so appealing about this entire album that makes it relevant today. I am particularly obsessed with the song Tyler which is [apparently] about a rape that occurred in Tyler, Texas. But that’s besides the point! All you need to know is that after 2:16, it is the most intense part of the song and I love singing along to it.

I am currently on a health kick right now and I get really excited when I can incorporate avocados into a meal. I’ve eaten guacamole, avocado smoothies, and I even put avocado in my hair (it helps for dry hair!). It’s chockful of good fats, potassium and B vitamins.

I recently purchased a paid account on the site so I am completely enthralled by the graphs and charts the pro account provides. I’ve also been using the Flickr search feature to find everything under the sun: tattoos, tattoo placement, album covers, “little girl crying under a willow tree in the middle of a field” (alright, not that one, but point being that you can search practically everything). So this morning I woke up with no intention of moving from my apartment. However, by noon, I practically committed moving into a house with Luke and Eric.

The details of the house, as described by Eric:

-2 washrooms
-2 living rooms
- roomy kitchen
- deck w/ 3 tiers
- fire pit
- a garden
- washer & dryer

The downside is that I won’t be as close to downtown as I currently am, but I do have a car, so getting around isn’t impossible. Despite that, it is cheaper rent and I think it’s time that I live with roommates again. I am also not 100% sure if I can get out of my lease, so I need to work on that tomorrow.

In other news, I applied to graduate school which was an interesting debacle, to say the least. Let’s just say that a half hour before I was supposed to have my documents to Purolator my car refused to start. I had to call a cab and book it to the Purolator depot just to make sure I got them in on time. Either way, I feel utterly relieved that it’s all over. Now to play the waiting game.

The other day I was at Cosmic Dave’s and we were discussing River & Sky and some of the potential bands that might play. From the sounds of it, it seems like this year’s River & Sky may be even better than last years! One of the rumoured bands is Born Ruffians which I am incredibly excited for. I’ve been a fan for a little bit and have yet to see them live and to see them at River & Sky would be wonderful.

I have been talking a lot about summer lately. Discussions around potential parties, camping trips, photo adventures, and music festivals have me yearning for winter to be over soon. I have never been a fan of winter in the least, but at least this year I have been occupying my time with skating. However, the weather has been unseasonably warm so outside has been a lukewarm, wet mess. Not ideal skating conditions in the least. I feel like there is nothing useful about this weather.

Oh god, I am talking about the weather.

Last night, at exactly midnight, I virtually booked it over to www.galleryac.com to purchase my presale tickets to see PAVEMENT in Toronto on June 19th.

Presale tickets aren’t cheaper, nor have they sold out yet. They enter you into a contest to win VIP wristbands and you get a $5 voucher for the Arts & Crafts table at the festival.

So why did I hurriedly purchased three tickets at midnight?

BECAUSE I AM SO DAMN EXCITED TO SEE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS PLAY LIVE.

Seriously, the moment I heard the opening chords to “Cut Your Hair” back in high school, I was hooked. I always lamented the fact that I would never be able to see them live, that I missed their hay-day because my parents didn’t have enough foresight to have me in 1980 rather than 1986. However, I will finally get to see them during their reunion tour. Days of listening to Live Europaturnén MCMXCVII and imagining being close to Stephen Malkmus’ dumb haircut while he croons the lyrics of The Hexx into a microphone are over.

It’s happening, it’s really happening.

(I guess I can mention that Broken Social Scene and Band of Horses are playing too, and though these two alone would excite me, the fact that Pavement has reunited and are willing to play a concert for me simply overshadows this fact)

I had to be up at 3 am in this morning for work.

(I had to work at 4 am)

And I assumed it would be painful and a little bit soul-crushing to be up that early, it was actually quite nice. I am used to stumbling home from the bar at 3 am, matted hair and slurred speech and an insatiable urge to be held and spoken to in soft words. It was pleasant to wake up refreshed; I sat and ate my breakfast near the window just so I could watch the cabs and the police cars lurch by on the glossy roads, listening to the quiet hum of the radiator.

Christmas is now over, and thank god for that. My haul this year was nothing short of fantastic. My parents gifted me a brand new telephoto lens which I am excited to use. My aunt also gave me a bunch of her old records. Even though many of them are throw-aways, their are some awesome gems.

I can feel the winter doldrums creeping in. I still have no plans for New Years Eve to speak of yet, but a part of me wants to throw caution to the wind and drive to Toronto for the Elliott Brood show at Lee’s Palace. However, I can’t find anyone willing to commit to such an adventure. I foresee myself either drinking Merlot from the bottle on Luke’s living room floor or crashing my sister’s party in Espanola. Maybe I will just stay home and play Tetris?
